Sandflies In Thailand: You will find sandflies on the wonderful beaches of Thailand
Sandies Thailend: Sandflies are tiny insects that are about one-third the size of a mosquito. They can be found in sandy or marshy areas and at high altitudes. There are many kinds of sandflies, depending on where you are in the world.
Sandflies breed in running water and are particularly prolific in areas near water and humid bush, for example at beaches, lakes, rivers, and swamps.
They are daybiters, striking primarily at dawn and dusk.
What about sandflys in Thailand?
Sandflies Thailand: Sand flies tend to be seasonal on a lot of islands. Of course you will find sandflies on the most wonderfull islands of Thaland. We taveld (Backpacking) a lot in Thailand. We unknowingly encountered the first sandflies (sand fly) in Thailand some years ago. They attacked our legs and arms and we didn’t even knew what they were and where all the bites came from. The following weeks are still burnt into our heads: we had horrible sleepless nights full of itching, scratching and hurting. Sometimes we even had allergic reactions within our group of fellow backpackers, which led to infections and nasty scars.
We felt that the relaxation of being on the beaches had somehow been taken away from us by an evil force. And a great part of our holiday was ruined.
In Thailand sandflies are called „Pung“ or sometimes „Lin Talay“. The sandflies in Thailand are black with either black or white wings. We recongniced that sandflies with white wings usually cause more allergic reaction. Stay away 🙂

Betamethasone Cream
We used this cream to reduce itching occurred by sandfly bite in Thailand. You will find it in many pharmacies in Thailand. It really helps you to reduce the itching. This medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (e.g., eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash). Betamethasone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions. This medication is a medium-strength corticosteroid. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems. You must check to make sure that it is safe for you to take betamethasone cream, gel, and ointment with all of your drugs and health problems. Do not start, stop, or change the dose of any drug without checking with your doctor or pharmacy
Triamcinolone Acetonide Cream
This medication is used to treat a variety of skin conditions (e.g., eczema, dermatitis, allergies, rash). Triamcinolone reduces the swelling, itching, and redness that can occur in these types of conditions. This medication is a medium- to strong-potency corticosteroid. The potency depends on the strength and the form that you use. For details on the potency of your product, ask your pharmacist. Tell your doctor and pharmacist about all of your drugs (prescription or OTC, natural products, vitamins) and health problems. You must check to make sure that it is safe for you to take betamethasone cream, gel, and ointment with all of your drugs and health problems.
